Harry Potter London Tours

Harry Potter filming locations in London

Platform 9¾, Millennium Bridge, Leadenhall Market and other London spots — what is free, what is a queue, and what is not the Studio Tour.

London’s Harry Potter map is street-level: a trolley at King’s Cross, a bridge, a covered market that stood in for Diagon Alley. It is atmospheric and mostly free. It is not the Great Hall.

Do locations if you have a spare morning or you already did Leavesden. Do not skip the studio because you stood in the trolley line.

The hits

Platform 9¾ is a photo op with a queue. Millennium Bridge is a walk. Leadenhall Market is a City lunchtime crowd. Australia House (Gringotts exterior) is a look from the pavement.

Guided vs DIY

A walking tour pays for stories and a route. DIY is cheaper if you only want two photos. Pick based on patience for the Tube, not fandom.

Why locations are a different day

They are London. The studio is Leavesden. Mixing them in your head is how people feel cheated by a “Harry Potter tour” that never leaves Zone 1.

What to expect on the day

  1. 1Outdoor walking and public transport.
  2. 2Queues at King’s Cross for the official photo.
  3. 3No sets from the films except what still exists as architecture.

Frequently asked questions

Is King’s Cross the studio?
No.
How long for locations only?
A focused walk can be 2–4 hours. A full guided tour is often half a day.
Best time for Platform 9¾?
Early, or accept the queue.
Are shops official?
Some are licensed, some are not. They are shops, not the studio.
Can I film everything?
Public streets yes, within reason. Follow signs at stations.
